With the iOS and Android mobile device keyboards, you can select from hundreds of emojis — everything from tacos to national flags to artists is represented as a cartoon emoji.
However, Snapchat’s emojis can mean a variety of different things — and it can be hard to interpret them.
Do you have any idea what Snapchat emojis mean?
It is important to keep in mind that these emojis vary slightly between iOS and Android devices, so we have also written out what the faces look like.
With Snapchat emojis, you and your friends can track each other’s activities. Depending on your Snapchat interactions, Snapchat will display different emojis for you depending on how frequently, when, and when not you interact with Snapchat. For example: 😊 A smiling face indicates that the user is one of your best friends, 💛 A yellow heart indicates that the user is your #1 best friend.
On the Snapchat screenshot below you can see these Snapchat emojis in their proper context, along with a few different emojis you may see in your app. Sliding right on your Snapchat app will take you to this page.
This image shows each emoji to the right of a Snapchat user you have a special relationship with.
At the time Snapchat was created, the app displayed each user’s best friends publicly (your “best friends” are the individuals you have sent the most snaps to). You can imagine why users were upset about this; can you imagine finding out that your best friend or significant other was best friends with someone else on Snapchat?
Therefore, Snap (now Snap. Inc) hid the best friend emoji in 2015, in the name of user privacy, and the lists of friends of other Snapchat users. As a result, more outrage reactions were generated. Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap Inc, has said the app will reintroduce friends in the public sphere, but how and when this will be implemented is not clear yet.
As you can see in the screenshot above, you can now see the friend emojis in a particular group of best friends. These emojis allow you to provide more details about the way you feel about each one of your Snapchat contacts.
Changing the way, the app represents these behaviors will give you better insights into how users interact with each other. Here are the emojis in Snapchat’s contacts list so you can better understand them. Also, keep in mind that you are the only one who can see these emojis.
