How to Refund a Game On Steam:

If you request a refund via help.steampowered.com within the return period, and if the game has been played in less than two hours, then Valve will issue the refund. A full refund of your purchase will be issued within a week of approval. Refunds will be issued in Steam Wallet funds or by the same payment method you used to purchase the item. “Steam will credit the full amount to your Steam Wallet if, for any reason, Steam is not able to issue your refund via the original payment method.”

In-game purchases can be refunded only for 48 hours after purchase as long as the purchase has not been used, modified, or transferred.

Sign in to your Steam account at help.steampowered.com.

Purchase by clicking “A Purchase.”

Select the item that you want to be refunded and click on it. The game or other item is outside the refund window if it does not appear on this list.

Please select the reason for your refund request.

“I would like a refund.” Click “I would like to request one.”

Fill out the next form and indicate how you want to receive your refund – to your Steam Wallet or your original payment method.

Once this is done, you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your refund request. We will contact you regarding your refund within a few days.

How Long Does a Steam Refund Usually Take?

Steam assures you that your refund request will be approved if you request it 14 days after purchasing the game or within two hours of playing it. A Steam representative will send you an email saying your purchase has been refunded as soon as they confirm your eligibility for one. Within seven days, you should have the money back in your account. It might take a bit longer if you used an international payment method. 

It must have taken you less than two hours to complete the game.

Likewise, if you purchased DLC within the last two weeks, and have not played the game for more than two hours since purchasing it, the above applies as well.

This situation is not treated as a refund if the refund request is approved within 24 hours of the purchase. The charge will disappear from your bank statement after Steam cancels the original transaction. The credit won’t appear in your account in this scenario, and the whole process usually takes up to ten days. 

Steam Refund Requests Aren’t Always a Smooth Ride

Despite Steam’s generous refund policy, the process isn’t always straightforward. You might encounter some of the following issues when requesting a Steam refund:

Steam’s policies explicitly state that refunds are not guaranteed for older purchases. Steam encourages its users to request a refund even for older purchases. Even though they don’t specify what “significantly” means, refund requests would be denied if the game was purchased significantly outside of the 14-day window 

Steam does not guarantee refunds for third-party DLC (for instance, if it levels up a game character irreversibly) or if it is consumed, transferred, or modified by users.

Unless the item has been modified, transferred, or consumed, in-game purchases can be refunded within 48 hours for Valve-developed games. Steam honors refund policies of third-party developers.

Refunds for video content are not possible. Steam is primarily a gaming store, but they also offer movies and series. Your money won’t be refunded if you purchase a video through them and want to return it
