How to turn off comments on a Facebook post - Wepicker

As an online messaging platform, Facebook is the house of many excellent content, posts, and images. Sometimes you need to control the flow of comments on your posts. Unfortunately, Facebook limits how and when you can prevent other users from commenting on your posts.

You should know that for the individual posts you publish on your Facebook, you must set the visibility to “Public” to manage comments for them. Furthermore, you can’t fully disable comments on your posts; you can only limit comments to friends or friends of friends.

However, this article will show you how to turn off the comments section on your Facebook posts.

How to control comments on all public Facebook posts

In the first part, we are going to show you a general method by which you can manage all your public posts on your account. Start by following these steps;

Step one: Open the web browser on your Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook and go to the Facebook website or use your Facebook app on your phone

Step two: Next, click the down-arrow icon at the top-right corner of the screen and select “Settings & Privacy.”

Step three: After that, from the “Settings & Privacy” menu, select “Settings.”

Step four: On the “General Account Settings” page, choose the “Public Posts” icon from the sidebar on the left.

Step five: Now, you are on the “Public Post Filters and Tools” page. Here, next to the “Who Can Follow Me” option, click the drop-down menu and choose “Public.”

Step six: On the same page, click the “Public Post Comments” option.

Step seven: In the “Public Post Comments” menu, click on the drop-down menu and select who can comment on your public posts.

To manage your posts, you see three available options;

  1. Public: Anyone, even those users who don’t follow you, can comment on your public posts
  2. Friends: Only your friends can post comments
  3. Friends of friends: Your friends and their friends can comment on your posts.

How to control comments on individual Facebook posts

In some cases, you intend to make changes only for a specific post and not all of them. To manage your post, follow these steps;

Step one: Open your Facebook profile either by a web browser or through your app

Step two: Next, select the “three dots” icon at the top-right corner of the post.

Step three: From the three-dots menu, click on “Who Can Comment on Your Post.”

Step four: Finally, the “Who Can Comment on Your Post” window will open. You can choose one of these options;

  1. Public: Anyone, even those users who don’t follow you, can comment on your public posts
  2. Friends: Only your friends can post comments
  3. Profiles and Pages You Mention: If you mention a specific page or profile on your posts, only they are permitted to comment on your post

How to control comments on Facebook group posts

The good news is that, unlike individual posts, you can entirely disable comments on posts in a Facebook group. To make these changes, you must be an admin or a moderator in the group. Follow these steps;

Step one: Open your Facebook profile.

Step two: Access the post for which you want to turn off comments on Facebook.

Step three: At the top-right corner of the post, click the “three dots” icon.

Step four: In the three-dots menu, click “Turn Off Commenting.”

You will see that Facebook will disable comments on that post. The existing comments will be retained, though.

How to control comments on Facebook posts in business pages

Unfortunately, Facebook does not offer options to disable comments on your business Facebook page posts and ad posts.

Summary

Thank you for your reading. As you see, the three explained methods are mostly the same, with a few differences. As mentioned above, you can turn off the comments section entirely on Facebook and just set some limitations. For more information, you can visit the Facebook help center.
